Friendly girl

Molly met a lot of new people this past weekend even though there wasn’t a meet and greet.  She just loves meeting new people!  Everyone who has come into contact with her has loved her sweet demeanor and how much of a lover she is.  As soon as she sees someone new, she starts wagging her tail and gets excited to be petted.  She also acts like this when I come home from work.  Molly also loves to crawl into your lap and bury her head into you just for a little ear scratch whether you are a new friend or her foster mommy.  She can’t wait to get an ear scratch or bury her head in the lap of a new forever family!

Lap dog?

At the pace academy meet and greet this weekend, Molly thought that my lap looked like a good place to be.  She first laid her head in my lap, then slowly came the right paw and then the left.  She crept across my lap until her chest was on my legs and she was comfortably resting her head under my arm.  She is such a cuddler, before you know it, she has crept up into your lap while sitting on the floor.  I think Molly is going to be the perfect first greyhound for someone.  She is very mellow, loving, quiet and independent.  In a very short time, her coat has become very silky and soft.

We had some time on Sunday morning to sneak into a ball feild for a good romp with Isis, Blue and Vada.  She still has plenty of speed in the legs, the other dogs got a bit of a head start, she took no time in tracking them down (be sure to check out her race record!).  Prior to the romp, she was given a nail treatment.  She didn't mind the dremel tool at all.

Got water?

As you can see, Molly is such a cutie!!!  This is a picture of her on her first night at my apartment.  As soon as we returned home, the first thing that she found was the water dish.  She was so thirsty after a long day at the Sandy Springs meet and greet that she laid down to finish off the bowl of water.  It was the cutest thing, so I had to take that photo opportunity.

Molly has been at my apartment for 3 days now.  She’s adjusting to the retired life really well….sleeping most of the day and enjoying the ear and belly rubs!  Molly also enjoys chasing the stuffies with Vada when I throw them across the room, but hasn’t quite figured out how to play with them yet.  I’m sure that she will figure them out soon enough.

So, what’s in a name?  When I first got Molly (previously LK Moe), I wondered why the breeder would name a female a male name.  Of course, usually breeders have no rhyme or reason to the racing names, but I was still curious.  So, I did some research on greyhound-data.com.  It turns out that Molly had 3 other females in her litter:  LK Eeny, LK Meeny, LK Miny, and, of course, LK Moe……eeny, meeny, miny, moe…..  Poor Molly ended up with Moe.  I think Molly fits her much better ;-)

Welcome

LK Moe arrived from Birmingham this afternoon.  She is officially retired.  :-)  LK Moe has also acquired a new name.  I’ve decided to call her Molly, after finding that Moe and “no” sound too much alike.  I don’t want her to think that she’s in trouble every time I say her name.

Molly had a VERY eventful day for her first day of retired life.  She started out the day getting a bath, an ear cleaning, and a 2 hour trip to Atlanta.  Then, Molly went to her first every meet & greet at the Sandy Springs Festival, where we all found out how much of a cuddler and leaner she is.  She was a huge hit!  Needless to say, Molly was exhausted by the end of the day!  Afterward, we were finally able to take Molly home.

Molly has been settling in nicely to her new foster home.  Vada, my greyhound, showed her the ropes immediately, starting with the stairs.  Molly needed to learn those fast because that is the only way in and out of my 3rd floor apartment.  The first flight was a little shaky, but she did the rest beautifully.  Vada also showed Molly how to treat the cat -- meaning to stay as far away from him as possible.  While Molly and Vada are both cat tolerant, the cat is not dog tolerant….he spends most of his day chasing the dogs around.

I’ll be posting pictures of little miss Molly soon, so be on the look out!
