Foster Home Update 4-5-10

"Johnny" is a faithful companion and loves to be with his caregiver. He is affectionate and often nudges his head against the caregiver's leg to be petted. During walks, he stays right beside the walker and periodically looks up and touches his nose to the leash holding hand. He stops when the walker stops and is not distracted by small animals. Though we have some work to do on his commands, he is very attentive. He loves banana slices and will sit, stay, and lie down for as many as he can get.

We have had Johnny in our home for a week, and he has been very tolerant of our cats, trading many sniffs with one who licked his ear, and friends with our black lab. Once or twice a day, he will have a burst of energy and try to run and play with our lab or race back and forth to tag a squeaky toy. His playful, athletic grace is amazing to watch.

Johnny's red fawn color makes him look like a deer. At a park this past week-end, a little girl halted on her bike and exclaimed, "Is that a DEER?!" He is a beautiful greyhound who turns heads - two people have even stopped to take pictures of him.

Training Continues

Final Johnny (Van Gogh) is fun and playful, especially early in the morning. He has completely opened up on the puppy field. He loves running with the other dogs and plays well with them. Van is a bit sensitive and responds to verbal correction very quickly as he wants to please you.

Van knows all of his commands and loves to work with his trainer. He continues to work on stay.

Final Johnny (Van Gogh) is showing his true colors now. We thought he was laid back, reserved, and quiet. Now that he has become accustomed to the program and the routine, he is now playful, fun, affectionate, and spirited. He LOVES squeaky toys.

Van Gogh is a very smart boy and has learned sit, down, wait, here, kennel and the stairs quickly. Van really knows how to work and is very focused when training. He will begin working on front and stay this week. Van Gogh has been very easy to train.

Final Johnny aka "Van Gogh" is playful, yet laid back. He loves everyone he comes in contact with - men, women, any size or race. He is very loving. Van was also the first grey to roach this session. He loves a toy and has figured out how to throw them up in the air and catch them. He is called Van Gogh because of his lazy left ear that he rarely uses.

Van is catching on to sit very quickly. He still needs a treat, but he is totally getting the idea of the hand signal as every now and then he will sit without a bribe. He waits very well and heels while walking.
