Hen is now a Tennessean!

Yep, Hen was adopted by a delightful couple, Wendy and Jerry Stiles, who live in Memphis, Tennessee.   They are very good friends with Russ and Ellen Thomas who coincidentally previously adopted Reward Hen's sister, Reward Top nka Scarlett, from another adoption group.  Dear Hen can occasionally visit with her sister!  Here are a few pictures of Hen and some of Hen and Scarlett.  Aren't they adorable?

Toys, Toys, and More Toys

Kisses has found the toy basket in the bedroom as well as the one in the living room.  She just loves to squeak them, toss them in the air, and carry them around the house in her mouth.  It's quite comical, to say the least.  She doesn't really have a favorite because ALL of them are her favorites!!

Thank goodness she sleeps at night! :)

The Art of Pilling

Dictionary.com provides this definition of a pill and also the definition when used as a verb:

pill - noun

1. a small globular or rounded mass of medicinal substance, usually covered with a hard coating, that is to be swallowed whole.
2. something unpleasant that has to be accepted or endured: Ingratitude is a bitter pill.

pilling – verb (used with object)

7. to dose with pills.
8. to form or make into pills.

And we all know that giving pills to dogs can be quite challenging to the point that it truly is an art form. With my Sugar's liver ailment last fall, I became quite creative in hiding pills in just the right forum so that it usually went undiagnosed by her and thus consumed by her, which is the point, right?

Well, my months and months of training with Sugar apparently were not quite enough when giving Kisses her antiobiotic last night. She has been on these since her spay surgery and hasn't had any issues with me just putting the pill in her food or hiding it in a marshmallow. Not until last night, I should say.

I did what I usually do and put the pill in her food. She subsequently ate around it this time. I recovered the pill and hid it in a marshmallow. She subsequently squeezed it out of the marshmallow. I recovered the pill and AGAIN hid it in a marshmallow. AGAIN, she subsequently squeezed it out. All the while I'm trying to grab it before somebody else does. So, I thought, well, let's try some peanut butter. Nope, she ate a bit and not the bit with the pill which ended up on the floor. I again recovered it and had yet another option. This time I stuffed it into a chunk of banana. Alas, she ate the pillAND the banana!!

Whoo hoo!! Just when you think you have it down to a science, someone comes along and tosses that thought out the window!!

What a Sweetheart!!

I now know why Reward Hen's kennel name is Kisses.  She freely gives them and is just a sweetheart of a Greyhound.  She is getting along famously with my girls and my other foster, Sami, and my 18 pound Ragdoll cat as well.  No issues, none at all.

Saturday we were at a Meet & Greet and she seemed to gravitate toward children both younger and older.  I do think she would do well in a home with kids.  She just loves them and she's super gentle!!

More to come as we get to know each other!

Kisses is Now Formally Retired!

Reward Hen, aka Kisses, is now retired and is in Georgia with me, her foster Mom.  She arrived Friday night about 10 p.m. and has fit in with my group and is doing quite well.  Here is a picture of Kisses getting her bath before heading back to Atlanta.  As you can see, she doesn't look all that thrilled with the bath but she did manage to get through it! :)  She also had her ears cleaned and has since received a full blown manicure and pedicure.

She is doing great and is enjoying retired life thus far.
