Graduation Complete

Gordy showed off his awesome skills this week by passing his basic command test and his Canine Good Citizenship practice test!  His inmate trainer says that Gordy was wonderful to train and will be missed by everyone.

Gordy enjoys visiting, playing, and working!  He listens well and loves to eat!  Tennis balls are at the top of his list and he will play with them until he drops.  His inmate trainer says that Gordy will also drink from a running water fountain.  He will also climb, crawl and play hide-n-seek like a happy child.  All of his basic commands and extras are in the bag and ready to be performed whenever requested.  His trainer says that Gordy is a wonderful well-mannered guy who can be lazy or playful.

His inmate trainer believes that Gordy is going to make some lucky family very happy.

Well Behaved

Swap week has come and gone!  During this time Gordy spent some time with an alternate inmate trainer experiencing time away from his primary handler and receiving commands from a new source.  His alternate handler says that Gordy is a very well behaved laid back kinda guy.  He does all of his basic commands really well and showed off his skills with a few extras as well!  He impressed his alternate handler with his ability to perform the bang, shake, and visit commands!

Gordy had no problems being away from his primary handler and adjusted well to his new environment.  His alternate handler says that while Gordy is laid back he can get very playful.  He says it’s wonderful to see this amazing boy so happy.  He truly believes that Gordy’s forever family is going really enjoy their time with this special guy.

Where Did All The Treats Go?

Gordy would like us to know that he believes his inmate trainer is eating his treats.  He says that he performs his commands like a good boy, but no yummy reward is offered!

Gordy’s inmate trainer says that Gordy is doing great with training; even without the treats.  He says that if you’re looking for a dog that can crawl, climb, jump, or just hang out then Gordy is your man!

Gordy enjoys the company of other dogs and doesn’t seem to need to be the leader of the pack.  His inmate trainer says that Gordy is eager to learn and please.  With graduation approaching his inmate trainer is making the most out of their days together and can’t wait to see what Gordy learns next!

What To Learn Next?

Gordy is a very loving boy and will go the extra mile to please his human.  He and his inmate trainer have been working in 10, 15, and 30 minute sessions and Gordy shows no signs of letting up!  He’s doing great with his basic commands and has even learned how to bow, paws up, visit, lap, crawl under, walk over, give five, shake using left and right paw, bang, play dead and pull!

His inmate trainer is still working to ween Gordy off treat rewards and all seems to be going well!  Gordy of course, would much rather have the yummy treats!  His trainer says that meeting strangers is no problem for Gordy and he just takes it all in stride.  Gordy has learned so much already it so looks like they will be looking for new and exciting things to learn soon!

Playing Is Learning

So there I was fast asleep in my kennel when all of the sudden my inmate trainer decides to wake me up!  Let me tell you, 4:00 a.m. is awful early but my human likes to rise and shine so I’ll go along with him.  We wind up in the training room where I never know what were gonna do, but I tell you I don’t think my human knows either.  Let me just tell you, one day we crawled under some chairs then walked over them then sat down then played down then bang.  My inmate trainer was sitting down so I did paws up on his legs and he told me I was good and gave me a treat!  He used to give me lots of treats, treats for everything, but I think he forgets sometimes – most of the time – poor guy.  I have to do more stuff now but he eventually remembers – I never forget and remain hopeful.  The good thing is if I do something new he remembers to dish out the treats!

I have a confession, I sometimes act silly and don’t want to follow through on my commands, well at least until I see that yummy treat.

I think you should know that I’m pretty cool.  My inmate trainer lets me smell things then he hides them for me to find.  Sometimes he even hides on top of bunks, but I paws up and find him!  He’ll even hid under the bed and I’ll crawl under and find him.  He gets really silly and hides in my crate, but I can see him.  It’s fun though.

I also feel like you should know that I like to make my human happy it makes me feel happy and successful.  I’m a sweet guy and I’m working hard to make myself ready for retirement in your home.

Going Above And Beyond

This week Gordy tackled the stairs and did really well!  He’s also doing well with jumping on and off the bench and his basics are getting much better!  His inmate trainer says that Gordy is a joy to train!  Gordy enjoys visiting others and showing love.  His inmate trainer believes that Gordy could be a really good therapy dog.

His inmate trainer has set up chairs back to back and Gordy will jump up on one then step over the back and into the other chair, sit like a man, then jump down!  His trainer has also thought him the bang command.  He says you point your hand at Gordy then say BANG and Gordy will fall all the way over!  He has also learned how to shake!

Gordy will go above and beyond to make his inmate trainer happy.   His trainer is working to come up with new things to teach this smart guy!  He also plays hide & seek with Gordy, but Gordy hasn’t figured out how to look up yet.  He looks down, under the bed and around things but not up.

His inmate trainer says that Gordy is shaping up to be an amazing guy!  He is enjoying his time with Gordy and can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

Amazing Guy

Four weeks down and only six more to go; how did that happen?  Gordy has been testing his boundaries a bit this week.   He knows that when his kennel is opened he’s supposed to wait, but this week he’s been putting one paw out knowing that his trainer is going to make him pull the paw back into his crate.  Sneaky little guy!

At meal times loses all train of thought at first sight of his food bowl.  They say that happens when it's love at first sight.  His inmate trainer is working to teach Gordy that through sitting and being patient he will earn super yummy rewards.  His inmate trainer says that Gordy is a hard worker and will go the extra mile trying his best to get it right.  His trainer says that Gordy tends to do even better the next day after has time to sleep on it!

As part of his training Gordy and his inmate trainer work on the basics and visit with different people daily.  His inmate trainer believes that Gordy is could make a wonderful therapy dog!

Docile And Loving

Gordy has learned to sit, down, limp, wait at the kennel door and to enter and exit doorways!  This week he and his inmate trainer had fun working on a few extra commands.  He's still a little slow to respond to crawl, limp, paws up, bow, search, pray and kiss but he's getting the hang of it.  He's also doing really well with the jump command.

Gordy has adjusted well to prison life and seems to be having fun learning commands.  His inmate trainer says that Gordy is a docile loving guy who could make a great therapy dog!  Gordy just wants to be loved and to receive praises and treats for a job well done.

His inmate trainer is looking forward to seeing how far Gordy takes training in the days to come!

Love Hound

Okay so there’s something you need to know about sweet ole Gordy, he loves his treat but is over the moon for praise!  This week his inmate trainer worked with him on sit, down, wait and stay. His inmate trainer is proud to report that Gordy is doing much better waiting to exit his kennel!

Gordy is really a love hound and not a sight hound.  He loves everyone! His inmate trainer confessed that in one week Gordy has melted his heart!  Gordy’s never ending happiness brings a smile to his trainers face.  Gordy wakes up every morning happy and looking forward to a new day!

Welcome To Prison Training

Gordy has adapted well to prison life!  His inmate trainer says that Gordy enjoys visiting and giving love.  He is eating his food too fast so his trainer has put a bone in his food bowl to help slow him down.

Training time has started and Gordy seems to really enjoy learning new things!  So far he's learned kennel, bed, hurry, heel, let's go, and basic leash walking! Gordy's enthusiasm for learning is great sign!  His inmate trainer is looking forward to seeing wha Gordy can do!
