Fonzy's Great Adventure!

Friday morning an email came across our in-house Yahoo discussion list that little Fonzy had escaped his foster Mom's backyard through a gate by springing the latch.  Everyone in the local Greyhound community converged in the neighborhood to begin the search for Fonzy.

Four hours into the search his foster Mom received a phone call from a man in the neighborhood stating he had Fonzy.  A return phone call to determine his location went to voice mail and the phone tag commenced.  Apparently the guy who had him went to work so was unreachable until close to 9 p.m.

Around 10 p.m. I received a phone call from volunteers from another group who stated they had him.  We made arrangements to meet so I could get him.  He was uninjured but definitely was a tired pup.  He has drank about 10 gallons of water since Friday night but otherwise, is none the worse for wear.

And he is settling in here with my pack.  As you see, he has even acquired a girlfriend while here these last two days!  That is BeeGee who is going to her forever home this morning.  Fonzy will miss her, I know, but he'll have four other Greyhound girlfriends to keep him busy!

He is a sweet boy who is looking for his forever home.  Is it yours?

THE NEW GUY

Race showed up last night in the rain and slop. We said "Hi" through the gate, but didn't get to join him in the big part of the yard and really introduce ourselves until this morning. He seems pretty cool. He grabbed a toy and ran with it so I could chase him, then let me have it before Samantha came in to join us and do the sniffing "Hello" thing.

So, here's the scoop on Race and his first day as part of the family. He made brownie points last night by being the first foster ever to jump into the car with no assistance beyond tossing in a squeaky toy. Then, this morning, he climbed all 13 steps to the back door in front of all  of us. Just so you don't think  he's some kind of Einstien dog, I had to show him how to operate the dog door Three times before I got him inside for the house tour.

He's not as big as we expected. Mom P measured. He IS tall. 30" compared to my meager 27, but she says he's as scrawny as I am, just with more bone to show. Since he's new, I think I'll let him take over the blogging for a while, and just offer advice as needed.

'Bye for now from Senior Greyhound  Fonzy

GETTING READY FOR COMPANY

Mom P says Sis Sam & I  have only a couple of more weeks to be alone together. Guess that's fine. We've had a bit of an empty spot since Big Maks has been gone. Another foster  Greyhound(YAY) named Race is to join us on Oct 13th and may stay until Spring. She tells me he looks to be sort of a combo of the 2 pals I made at the Sandy Springs M&G this month.  He's the same color as Knigel, but as big as Kingston.  Sounds good. Those guys were fun and  really cool.

Guess I'd better be extra nice to Samantha until then. She's my best bud. I wouldn't want her to like Race more than me; but he'll be able to keep up when I do laps in the yard, so I look forward to that. We'd best become real chummy. A couple of M&G's next month may find us squashed together in the backseat of the car. Mom P insists that even I am too leggy to fit into the bucket seat in front. I dunno. I manage to curl up in her lap sometimes without too much hanging over. We'll see.

I was also told to teach Race to be like me: so quiet and well behaved  she almost forgets I'm here. That's supposed to be a compliment, but it sounds a little backhanded, don't you think?

Meeting, Greeting, & Riding Shuttle buses

Those were my new activities Saturday at the Sandy Springs Festival. The first 2 were great fun; the 3rd, not so much.  Actually, the riding part was OK. It was just climbing into that huge thing that was a bit scary. Who knew it would be worth the climb and bursting with people willing to pet a passing Greyhound? All Right!!

Lots of other hounds at our Second Chance tent. Most spent the bulk of  the afternoon dozing in the shade. A few of us more outgoing guys preferred  to brave the sunshine in front so we could mingle with the crowd. If folks didn't stop to pet us on their own; Big Kingston, Striped Knigel, and I just pushed our way into the rush of people passing to lure them over and demand attention.  What a great way to spend an afternoon.  Mom P says we have a couple of more such affairs coming up next month. Count me in!

ITS 9/10/11

Isn't that cool? And isn't this cooler  weather great?   Sis Sam & I spent time on the outside  landing sunbathing and surveying our domain this morning. It felt good.   BTW, my neck is all healed.  Actually,it has been for several days, but I still had stiff patches in my fur until the last of them got brushed out after we came back inside.  All soft and fluffy again now.

Mom P says we have an interesting week coming up.  Thursday will be my 5th birthday. SHHH.... Don't tell, but I'm getting a dusting of grey on my muzzle. Seems appropriate for a Grey hound, and it just makes me look distinguished.   I may get a few extra munchies that day, but the big treat will be saved for the weekend.  My first Meet & Greet at the Sandy Springs Festival.  I'll get to spend several hours with other Greyhounds.  That sounds like a blast!  Haven't seen any of those guys for over a month. I'm getting excited! Come meet me there if you can.
