The Joys of Retirement!

Ms. Riley has been kicked back and enjoying her retired lifestyle.  She just had her second birthday in which she enjoyed her doggy birthday cake consisting of lots of bacon.  She loved and devoured it!

She is still quite spunky at times but has mellowed out more with each passing day.  She loves to go play in the yard and chase squeaky tennis balls.  Riley is so great with strangers and honestly knows no strangers.  She met a little girl the other day and was so kind and gently with her.  Riley loves to cuddle.

She is going to make anyone wanting a young, sweet, and high spirited Greyhound very happy.  It has been a great pleasure having her in our home.

Enjoying Foster Life!

Ms. Riley has been in our foster home for over a week now. She has adjusted wonderfully from the very first moment she arrived. She has been friendly and outgoing. She has greeted each and every house guest with pure excitement.

I must say she was very curious about her new surroundings but quickly picked up on the do's and don't s of the house. She likes to chew on things so she got a brand new toy just for her to chew on.

She is great about being kenneled and has had no potty accidents at all. Riley does very well with the other Greyhound in the home.  She shares her space very well.  Her two favorite things are being petted and chasing balls in the yard.

She knows her basic commands and sits and stays for her food. Riley is so beautiful and sweet and will make her new family very happy!

Heart Breaker

Riley has come a long way since week 1.  She has learned all her commands and how to back up.  She loves to play and when she gets excited, she jumps on her bed!  Riley is like a little kid.

Her favorite toys are a plastic squeaky pig and a soft furry ball.  She is hoping her new family has stocked up on toys and treats.  A big fluffy bed is a plus too!  This girl would like some pampering.

Riley will walk on the shiny floors, but has to go slow.  She is a very loving dog with sad puppy dog eyes.  One look into them and you will be in love.  She's a heartbreaker!

Alternate Trainer Time

Swap week time!  This week Riley spent time with an alternate inmate trainer.  He says that she’s full of energy and loves to run and play outside with the other dogs. She knows all of her commands and followed through like a pro! She takes her time on shiny floors but keeps moving to her destination.

She didn’t have any problems being away from her primary trainer.  She wasn't too crazy about going into her kennel at first, but once in there with the cover in place she settled in for a good nights sleep. Her alternate inmate trainer said he enjoyed his time with this sweet girl and believes that she's going to be a big hit in her new home.

Toy Shopping, Please

Hi there!  My name is Riley and I’m training for retirement!  I’m a happy girl and I love life.  I enjoy a good game of ball chase and don’t mind sharing my toys.  My inmate trainer says that I’m a smart girl and he’s right!  I know all of my commands, but admit that I sometimes want to know what is in it for me before I follow through.  I mean if we’re talking treats I’m in!

So, we really need to discuss these shiny floor things.  They look so weird!  I’ve gotten used to walking on them but am a little hesitant from time to time.  Okay, so I feel like I must confess one little teeny-tiny thing . . .  I love toys I want to collect them all and rule the toy world!  I want to surround myself in all that squishy squeaky toy amazingness!  Riley The Toy Conquer!   For the love of all things good someone please tell my new forever family that we MUST go toy shopping – we’re gonna need a cart, maybe two. Ohhh the happiness just at the thought of it all!

She Hoards

Riley continues to conquer everyday obstacles including those scary, shiny floors! She does them with ease now, thanks to the encouragement of those around her.

She is playing with toys and she loves to chase balls and then take them back to her kennel.  Yes, she is a hoarder.  She loves to run on the big yard with her Greyhound friends.  She does well as a pack, being non-confrontational, which is a great trait!

She is a great Greyhound who deserves her own family to love!  Are you that family?

Fast Learner

Riley is doing very good with her training.  She will do her basic commands usually on the first try.  She knows all of them verbally and most with hand signals.  She's a fast learner.

Riley is learning to back up and stay in her kennel while the door is open.  She will only come out when called.  She really enjoys lying around in her kennel.  If you put a blanket in it, she will ball it up and make a pillow out of it to lay on.  She likes to get comfy.

She still acts like a puppy when she plays, but is learning how to be a young lady.  Any family would be lucky to adopt this pretty girl, but be prepared, because this girl will steal your blankets and steal your heart!

Neck Scratches, Please

Riley is a very sweet girl who loves a gentle scratch on the neck!  Who doesn't like a little neck massage every now and then?  She is a bubbly girl who loves to play with toys, and will release them when told.

She is a fast learner and is doing very well with hurry, kennel, release, wait, let's go. She is a little slow in responding to heel, here, sit, down, stay, bed and jump, but we will work on perfecting them, and will have them all down pat in no time.   Riley knows most of her commands with verbal cues and hand signals. She's one smart cookie!

Her inmate trainer says she walks a little slow on the shiny floors, but has come a long way since coming to the prison.  As her confidence grows she will be a pro in no time.

Changes are Inevitable

I can sit!

Riley is getting accustomed to a new inmate trainer this week and is doing very well. At first she was slow to respond but she just had to get to know her new leader. As each day passes, there is more and more progress.  She knows all her basic commands including hurry, let's go, kennel, release, wait, here, heel, sit, down, stay, bed, and jump.  They are now perfecting those commands and increasing Riley's response time as well as the length of time she remains in position for each of the commands.

When Riley is not training, she loves to go out to the big yard and run like the wind.  She also loves to play with toys and balls.  She is not aggressive running with the others and plays nice with everyone.  She is very loved in the dorm and is doing very well.

She'll be a great companion for a lucky family, that's for sure!

Training For A Treat

Riley is doing great!  Her commands are improving daily. She will follow through with “kennel” and “bed” for a yummy treat.  She’s working on the “sit” command and her inmate trainer believes that she’ll have everything figured out very soon.  She seems to enjoy having her teeth brushed and loves having her hair brushed.   She likes toys and doesn’t mind giving them up when requested.  She and her inmate trainer are working on the “jump” command to help with getting in and out of vehicles.

Riley’s inmate trainer says that this sweet girl is sure to capture the hearts of her new family!

Gaining Confidence

Riley’s inmate trainer says that Ms. Riley is a very sweet girl.  She’s getting more comfortable on shiny floors and is adjusting to the new environment.  They have been working on “heel, “sit,” and “stay” this week.  Riley is grasping the concept of learning new things.  She seems to value play time more than treats so her inmate trainer rewards her by tossing toys and playing.  She leaps and pounces on the toy like a cat, then brings it to her inmate trainer ready for another go.  Her inmate trainer says that he’s not sure who is having more fun him or her!

Riley is working on the “kennel” command, and already knows her name, “here,” “wait,” “let’s go,” and “bed”!  This coming week her inmate trainer hopes to teach her “sit” and “heel”.

Welcome To A Brand New Life

Riley is a very sweet girl who is laid back, happy, and seems to be adjusting well to her new surroundings.  When she first arrived at the prison she didn’t want to walk on the shiny floors. Her inmate trainer has been patiently luring her with treats and had another dog walk beside her on the scary floors.  She’s already making progress!  She already knows her name and seems to be a quick learner.  She already knows “wait” and almost does “heel”!

Riley’s personality is sweet and playful.  Her inmate trainer loves to watch her run in the big yard. He says that his goal for next week is to teach her “sit” and firm up the response to “heel”. They’ve been playing a game calling her name and saying “here” with the hand signal command and she’s catching on really well!  Her motivation seems to be 50% treats and 50% affection.  Her inmate trainer says that he is curious to watch her personality come out more as training progresses.
