Graduation Countdown

Romeo has shown so much improvement since the day he arrived!  His inmate trainer says that Romeo has shed most of his fear and hesitation and has become more playful and energetic during training sessions!  His focus during training is exceptional!  This week he learned how to whisper, speak, give it, and drop it.  He has no problem sharing his toys and loves to round up squeaky toys and play tug-of-war!  He likes a gentle game of tug-of-war and if you pull too hard he will release the toy.  Paws up into a chair is another trick they worked on this week!

This week Romeo started showing his inmate trainer affection which was like medicine for his inmate trainer’s soul.  His inmate trainer wants Romeo’s new family to know that Romeo is a little slower to bond and open up, but it’s well worth the wait!

What An Awesome Guy!

Romeo spent the week with an alternate inmate trainer for swap week!  His alternate handler says that Romeo is a pretty awesome guy!  He was a little unsure at first, but by the end of the week his fun personality was shining through!  He can get really excited at times and likes to play with his toys to get the excitement out.  His other love is the Jolly Ball in the big yard.  He loves to run and play with it!

His alternate handler says that they all love Romeo and have the utmost confidence in him and his abilities.  He just knows that his new family is going to fall in love with him!  He says that time with Romeo is time well spent!

Playtime

Romeo’s paws have healed from his mishap in the big yard.  He's happy to have playtime back in full swing and loves pushing the big beach ball around in the yard.

His inmate trainer says that Romeo is doing really well with his commands, especially if he is alone in the training room without distractions.  Romeo doesn’t seem to like crowds and can get a little nervous when they’re in the crowded yard.  His inmate trainer is working to help Romeo feel more comfortable in these situations.

Romeo is a great boy and his inmate trainer believes that the family that chooses him is going to be very lucky!

Progress And Playing

Romeo has really started to shine!  He is playing with toys and prancing around out in the yard.  His inmate trainer says that Romeo rarely ever tucks his tail anymore!

This week they practiced stairs and Romeo did great!  While playing in the big yard with the Jolly Ball Romeo hurt 3 of his paw pads, but as of today he has healed and is doing great!

He is doing really well with his basic commands is only slow to respond to sit.  His inmate trainer says that Romeo knows what to do and is getting better and better every day.  Romeo socializes every day, but will shy away from some of the men.

His inmate trainer is thrilled to see the progress Romeo has made and can’t wait to see what he tackles next!

What Will He Learn Next

It has been a fun filled with Romeo!  Two weeks ago they had a setback with the jump command.  He hit his hind leg on the way up then refused to jump again.  Great news, new is now jumping again!  In the last week they have gone from not sitting at all to sitting with just a small amount of coaxing.  Romeo doesn’t like to have his feet grabbed so instead of shaking he does a fist bump.  His inmate trainer says Romeo will hit your fist with his paw if you ask from “sum dap.”  Romeo does a beautiful bow and preforms down like a champ.  He has come a long way from the shy skittish boy who arrived six weeks ago.

His inmate trainer plans to continue polishing up on his basic commands and extra skills.  He’s looking forward to seeing what Romeo learns next!

Learning Fast

Romeo is a shy guy, but he’s coming out of his shell more each week and acting more like a dog.  He learned to climb the stairs this week and did really well!  His inmate trainer says they made three passes with the stairs and by the last one he was walking up down carefully without being coaxed!  He says that Romeo learns things quickly and enjoys a good treat reward for a job well done.  This week they also worked on sit and stay.  Romeo is still a little slow on the sit command, but progress is being made.

He enjoys playing with toys and doesn’t seem to mind anyone near his toys or food.  His inmate is very proud of the progress Romeo has made and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!

Learning To Jump

Romeo learned to jump on the bench this week! He also responded to the bed command with a treat!  He’s not too sure about this whole sitting thing, but his inmate trainer knows that he’ll have it figured out soon.  He is preforming hurry, let’s go, kennel, release, and wait very well!  His responses to heel, here and down are a little slow but will improve with time.

Romeo is still shy about some things, but is making progress!  His trainer believes that with more time to adjust to this environment he will come out of his shell.

Becoming Playful

It has been an exciting week with Romeo!  He's starting to come out of his shell!  In the mornings he's eager to go out and has been wagging his tail!  This week Romeo learned to jump!  He and his inmate trainer also worked the bed command while his secondary trainer was in the room providing distraction and Romeo did really well keeping focus and following through!

So far Romeo has tackled hurry, let's go, kennel, wait, and jump!  He's a little slow responding to release, heel, here, sit, down and stay, but his trainer knows that Romeo will be responding like a pro in no time!

A Shy Sweet Guy

Romeo is doing great!  He’s a bit shy so his inmate trainer has been taking things nice and slow to help Romeo adjust.  They’ve been working with him on leash skills, kennel and wait.  His inmate trainer says that it’s been fairly easy to teach Romeo to wait in his kennel before being allowed out and he’s taken well to waiting at doorways.  The sit command was introduced this week and he was doing well just after a few tries!  His inmate trainer has also been working on shake, belly and speak, but Romeo is not too sure about these commands yet.

Romeo is a great guy!  It takes him a little longer to warm up to stranger, but will come around. His inmate trainer is looking forward to seeing Romeo's personality emerge.

Walking Into Training

Romeo is a bit shy so his inmate trainer is taking things nice and slow to help him adjust to this new environment.  Prison is a pretty big change from the track.  Noises are different and bigger here!

While adjusting to this new life Romeo and his inmate handler have a lot of leisurely walks.  Romeo has very nice leash skills which makes for a nice stroll!  His inmate trainer says Romeo has started tackling training and is doing really well with hurry, let's go, kennel, wait, heel, and here.  He's a little slow to respond to wait, heel, and here but will follow through.
