She's Back!

Jasmine has come back to SCG due to no fault of her own.  Seems she decided she did not like the cat in her adoptive home, although she originally tested tolerant of cats back in November.  This happens sometimes, dogs will be dogs and cats well, they will be cats, too.

Jasmine is in foster care and is doing well with her foster brother, Harley.  Funny, they both served time together in the big house.  Don't know if they truly remember each other or not but they did spend 10 weeks together, learning their commands, and learning about life away from the track.

As you can see, Jasmine is quite the beauty.  She is thriving and continues to practice her commands every day.

If you're interested in this beautiful, sweet girl, go ahead and submit an application.  She won't be available for long, I assure you!

All Good Things Must Come To An End

As the old say goes, all good things must come to an end.  Her inmate trainer says that it seems like it was yesterday when Jasmine walked into the prison.  He says that he couldn’t be more proud of the changes Jasmine as made, but also of the changes he has made.  All made possible by her ability to love unconditionally.

This past week her training team has spent time showering Jasmine with lots of love while quietly saying their goodbyes.  He says that there is something indescribably special watching a little 56lb dog bring smiles to an otherwise dark world. Jasmine’s training team says that they are very thankful for the opportunity to work with Jasmine and the other Greyhounds in this program. They find great comfort in knowing that Jasmine is going to a forever home that will provide her with the love she deserves.

Guess What Time It Is? Swap Week Time!

Guess what time it is?  Swap week time!  It’s the time in training where the inmate trainers exchange dogs to work on commands from new people and time away from their primary trainers.

Jasmine’s alternate inmate trainer says that Jasmine is so small and beautiful!  She knows her commands, but can play the stubborn card from time to time.  She will spend time in her crate but would much rather be out and about with her human.  That’s where all the love is she says!

Her alternate handler believes that Jasmine is going to make some lucky family very happy.

Cruisin' Through The Days

Jasmine and her inmate trainer spent this past week in cruise mode.  Jasmine knows all of her commands so they’ve just been enjoying their time together.  A new member joined their team last week so Jasmine got to experience taking her commands from a stranger.  In true Jasmine style she took it all in stride and performed all of her commands on the first try!

Alas, it’s still an ongoing struggle dealing with her addiction to balls and squeaky toys.  The girl just can’t help herself!  Beware of taking her shopping down the toy isle as she’s going to want them all!  Good news is that she’ll wear herself out playing fetch.  Her inmate trainer says that she’s a wonderful girl who has raised the bar on his expectations of how Greyhounds can ben when given love and training.  He knows that Jasmine is going to bring a lot of joy into her new home!

Bringing Smiles To All

Hiya!  I’m Jasmine and I believe that I should greet all humans and bring a smile to their faces! My inmate trainer says that I’m the cure for depression!  Happiness is what I’m all about! Seeing my human happy makes me feel accomplished.

I also enjoy learning.  It’s so empowering to figure out new things!  I’ll admit, the treats are a nice addition.  This week I learned how to “whisper” and even I have to say it’s cute!  I’m doing well with all of my commands and extras.  I’m still working to figure out this jump thing, but I’ll get it soon enough.  I really like this new turn my life has taken and I can’t wait to meet my new forever family!

Back to Basics

This past week has been all about the basics, much to Jasmine's chagrin.  Since she has a bit more energy than most Greyhounds they have been mostly working on the "bed" and"stay" commands.  She will go to her bed on command, no problem, but has trouble staying there.  She is much more interested in floating around the dorm channeling her inner social butterfly while trying to convince others that her inmate trainer never feeds her.  She will do this by looking at you with sparkling, cute, longing eyes that just tug at your heart strings and makes you either love on her or feed her.  She is happy with either but prefers a tasty treat.  After all, she does resemble a mixture of a Jersey cow.

Jasmine has also turned into quite the morning time "Little Miss Sunshine".  When she first comes out of her kennel, it's all about tail wagging and she's bouncing around as if she hasn't seen her inmate trainer in ages.

This coming up week they will begin preparing for the AKC Good Citizen test.  He has no doubt she will pass due to her willingness to do her commands with or without treats.

She's been quite a joy to train!  There is definitely going to be one lucky family out there who adopts this sweet girl!

One Smart Girl

This week has been all about going back to the basics.  Jasmine picks up stuff so fast that her inmate trainer has decided to take his foot off the gas and make sure she has all of her basics down pat.  She’s a master at “sit” and will sit for any and everything!  She’s an energetic girl so after training she gets to wear herself out with a tennis ball.  When playing her inmate trainer makes sure he always has something of high value to swap for the tennis ball, otherwise it’s hard to get her to release it.

Jasmine is a sweet girl who could spend hours in your lap absorbing love.  It’s only half-way through training and already she has everything pretty much down pat.  Her inmate trainer says that he’s very proud Jasmine and her training team!  They’ve taken a wonderful dog and turned her into a little lady!

Down to Earth and Fun

Jasmine’s inmate trainer says that Jasmine reminds him of a rodeo clown.  She’s an all-around down to earth fun dog.  She is eager to please and picks up commands very fast which makes training fun and rewarding for both of them!

Jasmine already knows all of her basic commands and they are now adding extras to keep her interested in learning.  Since Jasmine is naturally sweet and loving her inmate trainer taught her the “visit” commands.  She will now proudly go up to anyone sitting down and place her head in their lap for a good rub behind the ears!   Jasmine believes that she was born to be a lap dog and doesn't understand that she’s 54 lbs.

She is still obsessed with all things that squeak so her inmate trainer uses a toy as a training session reward.  She only gets them after “sitting” or preforming “down” and remaining calm. Her inmate trainer wonders if she needs to attend a 12-step squeakers anonymous program.  Until then, they will continue to work on “give” and “drop” in an effort to promote sharing.

Jasmine’s inmate trainer says that this smart and funny girl is going to make a wonderful family companion and may have a remarkable future in the rodeo circuit!

TOYS!!!!

It’s true, Jasmine is obsessed with toys.  Her inmate trainer says that her love for all things that squeak borders on the line of being an addict.  He says that this cute girl just can’t help herself! The good news is that she has improved dramatically!  He inmate trainer works playing into training as a reward for a job well done.  This has also helped to teach Jasmine patience by making her “sit” and “down” before being allowed to play with her toy.  She is a super smart girl and already knows her basics so they’re slowly going work on extras to keep training fun.

This week the “speak” command was added which has helped with her kennel singing.  She seems to understand that only doing it when requested earns her a reward.  In other news, Jasmine tackled some stair training this week and she went up and down them like she’s been doing it her whole life!

The sky is the limit for Jasmine and her inmate trainer plans to help her fly!

Fearless and Carefree

Jasmine’s inmate trainer says that he believes Christmas came early and brought him a present in the form of one of the smartest dogs he’s ever trained.  He says that she’s so smart that he wouldn’t be surprised to find her spending her free time in the kennel arguing the merits of Albert Einstein’s’ Theory of Relativity!

Jasmine picks up on commands in no time which makes training fun!  She’s addicted to squeaky toys, but is doing much better with sharing.  Her inmate trainer has been working on “give” and “leave it” and makes her “sit” before she gets a toy.  Jasmine’s passion for learning and long attention span are making training a little easier. She is a social butterfly at heart so her inmate trainer taught her the “visit” command this week.  She’s more than happy to place her head on your lap while you give her a good scratch behind the ears.

Her inmate trainer states that Jasmine seems to have a fearless carefree spirit.  If you’re looking for a dog that’s smart enough to help your kids with their homework then Jasmine is the girl for you!  She’s super fun, loving, and sweet!  Prepare to lose your heart to this girl!

Learning How to Just Be

In a world where first impressions mean everything Jasmine is queen!  She made her grand entrance with her head held high and her tail wagging with playful delight!  Her inmate trainer says that he instantly felt Cupid’s arrow pierce his heart.

Jasmine handled her bath and nail trim with grace.  She’s treat motivated and even likes to lick your hand; you know, to make sure she got all the crumbs! Her inmate trainer says that this is going to make training fun and a little easier!  Her trainer introduced toys and her ears perked up at the sight of the raccoon.  He gave it a little squeak and in a flash the toy was gone from his hand!  He quickly made a mental note to work on the “give” and “leave it” commands!

Jasmine has decided she wants to be a backup singer for Adele.  She’s been practicing her singing howl, but she keeps her session short to preserve her beautiful voice and to keep from disrupting the community.

Her inmate trainer is looking forward to the coming weeks and can’t wait to see how far she takes training!
