It's Time To Move Forward

Well, this is the last entry for Abby.  Her inmate trainer says it has been an interesting 10 weeks. Abby has been a joy to train!  She’s friendly girl who is easily trained as long as treats are available.  She loves to run and play and he enjoys seeing her so happy.

They continue to work on “leave it” and she continues to show improvement.  He believes that once Abby has bonded with her new family that the sky will be the limit.  As hard as it is to say goodbye to this sweet girl he’s happy for the promising future ahead of her.

Swap Week - Nailed It

Swap week and Abby nailed it!  She did a great job following commands from new people and didn’t mind spending time away from her primary trainer!  Her alternate inmate trainer says that Abby has a happy on the go attitude.  She’s always ready for a good run or play session with a soft toy.  She’s not too crazy about sharing her toys so playtime doubles as training time as they work on toy sharing.  Using commands like “give” to retrieve the toy from her mouth and “leave it” keeps her from picking up the toy until given permission.

Her alternate inmate trainer says that Abby is fun loving and very sweet.  She’s always paying attention and ready to learn.  He has really enjoyed this opportunity to work with Abby and believes that her new forever family is going to fall in love with her!

Treats and Training

Another week has flown by and Abby continues to be her sweet self.  She gets along well with humans and the other Greyhounds.  She’s doing great with all of her commands.  She is slow responding to a few commands, but is interested in trying to figure them out.

Her inmate trainer noticed that she’s lost a little weight so he increased her evening meal.  Her inmate trainer says that when she approaches someone she will dip her head and acts bashful, except for treats then she’s all… why hello you wonderful human.

Abby is not a fan of sharing her toys, but her inmate trainer continues to work with her by swapping a toy for a treat.  She doesn’t mind sharing for something of higher value!

Curious Cuteness

Hello world! Abby here, I figured it was time to put paw to paper to let you humans know how it’s going.  Before I go any further I want you all to know that I’m beautiful and I have a wonderful personality.  I’m curious about everything; it’s all so new and educational!  Speaking of educational, I’m doing this new training gig preparing retirement.  What is retirement you ask? It’s this thing where I get treats for the rest of my life!  Humans are sooo cool!  Now, I’ll be honest my inmate trainer wants me to follow through with these commands things; like sit, stay, and whatever then he’ll feed me!  How sweet is that!?

This week I worked with him on patience. I just felt like he needed training himself since I’m doing such a stellar job.  ANYWAY, he’d make request and I’d ignore him a little to see how he’d react – I’m mean, I know I’m getting a treat once I follow through but what does he get out of it?

I got to practice on these tower things (my inmate trainer calls them steps).  I rocked them pretty well!  They're like truly scary, but I’m learning that if I take it easy it’s not going to hurt me.  I enjoy playing with my fellow Greyhounds, but I’m not too sure about sharing my toys with them. I’m mean let’s get real, TOYS are amazing!!  Why should I watch someone else having fun?  Y’all stay tuned this party ain’t over yet and I’ll have more to report next week!

Making Smiles Happen

Abby’s inmate trainer says that Abby seems to bring a smile to his face daily!  She’s so fully of joy and love!  She’s doing great walking with her inmate trainer on the track and has even helped another Greyhound who’s scared of shiny floors!  She walks right next to the other dog while on the shiny surface as if to say, “see its okay nothing to be afraid of.”

She’s sitting and staying really well at meal times.  She knows most all of her basics really well! “Bed” and “jump” are still works in progress, but she’ll get these figured out soon enough. She’s also doing really well with the “kiss” command.  Her inmate trainer says that this sweet girl is going to make a wonderful companion for some lucky family!

Learning the Ropes

Training is coming right along for sweet Abby!  She’s still worrying over the shiny floors so her inmate trainer is working constantly to help increase her confidence.  She’s showing improvement with “sit” but needs a little more time to figure it out. Her “down,” “stay,” “bed,” and “wait” are doing really well!  Her inmate trainer is working to show her that sharing is fun and positive.

Abby is a sweet girl who enjoys playing and running around with the other Greyhounds.  She goes up and down the stairs like a champ and understands many of her commands with verbal and hand signal ques.

Abby The Conquer

Another week has come and gone for Abby and her inmate trainer.  Abby continues to win the hearts of everyone she comes in contact with.  The obstacle of shiny floors seems to have passed. She’s walking down the hallways like a champ these days.  She continues to play with other dogs and loves playing with toys.  She is doing great with grooming and even seems to enjoy getting her teeth cleaned!

Abby’s doing really well with “sit,” “down,” “wait,” “bed,” “leave it,” and “here.”  “Stay,” “heel,” and “give” are still works in progress, but she’ll have these figured out in no time.  Her inmate trainer is looking forward to seeing what Abby learns next!

Will You Love Me?

This week of training has gone really well for Abby!  She has started responding to the “bed,” “heel,” and “leave it” commands!  The “sit” and “down” commands are still works in progress, but she'll get the hang of these in no time.  Now that Abby has discovered toys she’s not too keen on the idea of sharing.  Her inmate trainer is working to show her that sharing is a good and rewarding idea.

Abby also worked on going up and down stairs this week and she did great!  Oh the shiny floors… she’s been working on those too AND improving.  She’s still hesitant about them, but her confidence is building.

Everyone who comes in contact with Abby seems to love her.  She does great with other dogs and loves human attention.

Sweet and Wonderful

Week two is going very well for Abby!  Her inmate trainer says that she is a sweet girl with a wonderful personality.  She’s a very smart girl and has already started to learn the sit, stay, heel, and bed commands!  She’s still figuring out the training process but is willing to give it a try!  She interacts really well with the other Greyhounds and loves human attention.

Abby slipped on the shiny floors and is now afraid to walk on them.  She wasn’t hurt, it just scared her.  Her inmate trainer is working to help build her confidence so that she can tackle those mean ole floors and be victorious.

She does great in her kennel and is starting to play with toys.  Squeaky toys are her favorite!  Her inmate trainer hasn’t had the chance to see Abby run yet since she’s still recovering from her spay surgery, but he’s looking forward to seeing her fly!

Let Training Begin!

Abby has arrived at the prison for training!  Her inmate trainer says that she has a wonderful personality.  He started bonding with her by feeding her by hand.  She likes to play with toys and so far her favorites are furry stuffed animals.  She is food motivated which should make training easier.

Her inmate trainer has started working on the “heel” command.  He believes that once she’s figured out the performance/treat reward system she’s going to do great!
